Figure 1. Reporter, Daily Mail. "'He Wanted a Woman Half My Age, Now I Do Everything to Keep Young': Wives of Plastic Surgeons Reveal Addiction to Free Surgery." Mail Online. Associated Newspapers, 28 Jan. 2013. Web. 02 Mar. 2014. <www.dailymail.com>

The image above shows Frances Marques from reality TV show Plastic Wives receiving a syringe full of Botox injections. The four wives in the reality TV show Plastic Wives have unlimited access to Botox injections and cosmetic surgeries for free anywhere and anytime without any boundaries. This is due to the infamous and most capable cosmetic surgeons in Beverly Hills who are also their husbands.       In the ABC News interview, the four wives are asked about their procedures and what they have had done and why. Co-anchor of television show Extra and wife of plastic surgeon Brent Moelleken, Dayna Devons explains that, "In any other community in the world it makes no sense, but it's Hollywood." She wants to continue working in television however when forty is right around the corner and a career wants to remain in her hands, "there are some things you gotta think about". Dayna Devons admits, "I wasn't ready to hang it up yet, I wanted to extend my shelf life a a little bit." Her "shelf life" can only mean her career; a career that requires her to look presentable to the public, and a career that only admires the youth.  The "things" she has to think about, is solely referring to cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is capable of enhancing and fixing all the imperfections one would like to fix. Devon only seeks to extend her career life a little longer with her physical feature that is within the control of her hands. To her advantage, the easy-access solution to impede aging is her husband. Her husband, Brent Moelleken is capable of performing any cosmetic procedures even at their own home. She can simply walk in and out of the clinic with no appointment needed and at no costs. Regardless of any health risks Devon may encounter in the future, she can only focus on the issues in the present; her face and body. The journey to remain youthful and the ambition to continue her career as a co-anchor and reality TV star slowly leads her into the surgeon's scalpel.

  1. Lisa,
Overall, I thought your topic was very interesting and wasn’t boring to read. Grammatically, you had good use of parallelism when talking about the characters. Also, you write really well and use strong verbs and adjectives.
However, the post seems repetitive at times. For example, in the first sentence, you say Plastic Wives twice. When I was reading it, it seemed weird. Also, the post as a whole got really repetitive towards the end. There weren’t many details besides the thing about Dayna Devons extending her career. I think if you maybe included more about the show or talked about another character, it might have seemed a little less repetitive. I like what you said about her career only admiring the youth. It would be interesting to hear a little more about that.
Grammatically, there are a few things you would need to fix. In the sentence “She wants. . . think about”, there are a couple commas missing and the sentence is not very well written in general. And in the sentence “In the. . . and why”, I think it would sound better if you said were asked instead of are asked. But those are just small things.
And lastly, there were one or two spots where the quotes seemed a bit choppy with the rest of the sentence. Adding or taking out a few words would have made it flow more smoothly.

  2. Lisa, I thought this was pretty good. As I just wrote to Alanna, this is a tough assignment, because some of you might not be able to write 300-400 words about a single image. This is understandable. I get the impression that you will be able to use this image, but you probably won't be able to write much about it. It might only serve as a way to introduce Dayna Devon. Please consider Alanna's comments about your style and technique.
